Database of non-profit corporate scrutiny

An initial database of non-profit organisations producing research on company sustainability

There are an amazing number of non-profit organisations producing sustainability research and corporate scrutiny. These range from organisations solely focused on investors, to those that produce occasional outputs that could be useful for investors. The initial database has 200+ organisations. Please send feedback so future versions can be improved.

One barrier for investors, and others, to use non-profit corporate scrutiny is finding the relevant non-profits and knowing which to trust. To help address this Scrutiny Hub has created an initial database of non-profits. This is a first draft which will be improved in the future.

Please send any feedback on omitted organisations, comments on which non-profits you value, and how else the database could be improved. This will be incorporated into future versions. The aim is for this to come a useful public resource to make it easier to use the research from scrutiny non-profits.

It is a very diverse ecosystem that varies along some of the below dimensions.

  • The degree of focus on, and use by, investors. And equally, the balance of focus on real-world projects, policy, public awareness, companies and R&D.
  • The balance between activism and campaigns vs partnership and factual research.
  • The degree of topic specialism. Some organisations focus on one topic, while others cover a range of sustainability topics.
  • Most non-profits are funded by philanthropic foundations or government grants but there are also models charging for membership, data, and events.
  • The regional focus is often global, with a bias to Europe and North America.
